If you’ve been empowered, don’t start demanding others immediately change their ways, but instead lead by example.
You’ve been given the right to change peoples’ lives, don’t abuse it. It’s a great honour that should be used for the good of the business and the individual.
Treat others how you would like to be treated yourself. If you’ve enjoyed empowerment, try giving that gift to others.
Don’t ever, I mean EVER, think it’s clever, cool or funny that you may have the power to terminate employment. Those light-hearted threats are humiliating and imposing poverty is not a joke.
When you do have to let people go, do it with kindness, dignity and respect, even if the recipient doesn’t see it at the time or responds with anger. You are changing someone’s life.
You deserve to enjoy leadership too. If your team is happy, they will perform better; both of which will bring you joy. Stay mindful, observe the positives, but accept that some things won’t go as planned.
I mostly write about technology, business, leadership, society and politics. I'm interested in how we live at work and work on life today and in the future.
